Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Where is Bay Area Garden Nerd based?

We focus on gardening in the San Francisco Bay Area, with planting advice tailored to local microclimates. While most tips are specific to our region, much of our guidance is also useful for gardeners in other parts of the U.S.

2. What planting zones do you use?

Our free guides reference USDA Hardiness Zones for broader reach.

Our premium guides include both Sunset Zones and USDA zones.

(Note: Sunset Zones are a climate map used in the western U.S. that account for temperature, humidity, and microclimates—far more precise for Bay Area gardeners than USDA zones. USDA zones are listed in brackets for easy cross-reference.)

3. Do you cover the whole Bay Area?

Yes. We aim to include tips for a wide range of Bay Area microclimates, from foggy coastal neighborhoods to warmer inland valleys.

4. Can I request a specific plant guide or topic?

Yes! Use our Contact page to send requests. While we can’t promise every request will become a post, we love hearing ideas from local gardeners.

5. Are your tips organic?

Most advice here leans toward organic and sustainable gardening practices—like companion planting, integrated pest management, and natural fertilizers. If a tip involves synthetic products, we’ll clearly note it so you can make your own choice.

6. Is this blog free?

  • Premium content (subscription): In-depth planting calendars, microclimate-specific advice, pest/disease watchlists, downloadable tools.

8. Do you sell plants or seeds?

9. Can I share your posts?

Yes! You’re welcome to share links to our articles or reference them in your own work with proper credit. Please don’t copy full posts without permission.
